2020 Ecuador ABST Introduction

For the past 25 years, Gannon University has sent groups of students throughout the country and around the world to do service in a variety of capacities through the alternative break service trip (ABST) program. We are excited to announce that we will be the first group of Gannon students traveling to Ecuador this spring break for service.

Our community partner, Amizade, has hand picked Gannon for their pilot program of this trip. Amizade is a fair trade learning organization, which means that the people who will be hosting & feeding us are getting compensated fairly for their work. Amizade’s mission is to inspire empathy, catalyze social action, and link diverse communities”. While in Ecuador, we will be focused on subsistence farming, climate change, rural economic development, and relevant political factors. We will be engaging in physical service and also be exposed to a service of learning. Amizade will be providing us with information on the history of Ecuador, current issues facing the country, and guiding us to various geographical locations.

Our group has been meeting since October to get to know one another and prepare for our trip. We are so excited for you to follow our journey! Here are the members of our group:
